Back to School Tips from Adventure Park USA

Back to School Tips from Adventure Park USA

The school year is quickly approaching. Between back-to-school shopping, school orientation and other preparations it can be easy to race through the last few weeks of summer vacation. At Adventure Park USA we want to help you make lasting family memories before school is back in session.

Frederick County Public Schools start a little later than normal this year which means extra summer vacation for kids. Spend that time with family at Adventure Park USA where you can have more fun for less. Monday through Friday take advantage of our Twilight Pass and get 2 Go Kart rides and 3 hours access to attractions after 5PM for only $25. For the little ones, ages 8 and under, we have a Tot Pass that includes $5 in arcade credits and unlimited play in the Gold Rush Soft Playground for just $7. To see all of our upcoming events and specials click here.

With a little planning, you can make back to school simple and leave time for family fun before the school year begins. Here are a few of our tips to make the transition easier for both you and your kids:

  • Begin a new routine in advance: A few weeks before school starts move bedtime back to an earlier time. This helps ease into the school-year schedule and makes the adjustment much easier – especially with young kids.
  • Read with your kids: Make a point to read with your kids on a daily basis during the last few weeks of summer break. It will help prepare them for doing homework once the school year begins.
  • Get organized: Create a family event calendar to help you keep track of everyone’s busy and ever-changing schedules. Avoid last minute panic by going through school packets and information before they are due. Don’t forget to write all important dates on your calendar!

For the kids who are too young to attend school in the fall, Adventure Park Academy has Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten programs. Teachers use an emergent thematic and play based approach to curriculum teaching. During these programs, emphasis is placed on the social skills of sharing, communication, self-concept and meeting personal needs. Both programs are approved by the Maryland State Department of Education. For more information about Adventure Park Academy, click here.

Summer Camp at Adventure Park Academy

Summer Camp at Adventure Park Academy

With summer quickly approaching it’s time to choose a summer camp! Today there are camps to meet every interest, price range and schedule. Summer camp provides lifelong memories and is something that kids can look forward to every year.

While the options in Maryland may seem overwhelming, we have some easy tips to ensure you choose the best summer camp that aligns with the child’s interests and the parent’s needs.

  • Before you sign up, know what a typical day looks like. Each week has a different theme at Adventure Park USA Academy Summer Camp. A few of the 2017 Summer Camp themes include: Maze Mania, Going Old School, Twisted Sports and Myth Busters. To see a full list of daily activities, click here.
  • Ask about the hours of operation, pick up and drop off times. Summer Camp at Adventure Park Academy is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday – Friday. Extended care is available from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. and/or 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for an additional $25 per week.
  • What can you expect from camp? Adventure Park Academy provides a place where children can learn through play, have an opportunity for discovery, exploration and express ideas through hands-on learning experiences.
  • Know who the staff is. Each counselor at Adventure Park Academy is finger printed by the FBI and the state of Maryland. They are First Aid and CPR certified. All full time counselors are 18 years of older, attending or completed college, or have completed specific certifications in education.

At Camp Adventure kids get to experience all the great trips, activities and best of all – an entire park of rides and attractions. For the little ones, Adventure Park Academy also has a Preschool group.

Summer camp should be more than just a place for your child to spend time. At Adventure Park Academy, we help develop social and emotional skills while creating an all-day fun atmosphere. Join us at “Camp Adventure 2017” by signing up here.

A Parent's Solution to Lazy Days

A Parent's Solution to Lazy Days

In a society where today’s youth is glued to a smart phone, computer or television screen, it is imperative that we take the initiative to encourage outdoor recreation. Outdoor activities not only improve a child’s overall health, it also improves their social skills and their attitude, thanks to the mood-boosting effects of Vitamin D!

Oftentimes, the most common response when you tell a child or teenager to go do something outside, is “there’s nothing to do!” or “I don’t know where to go”. Childhood obesity, another growing epidemic, can be prevented by making physical activity fun and enjoyable at an early age. Studies show that obesity is more strongly linked to the absence of physical activity than it is to calorie intake.

At Adventure Park USA, we are a solution to that problem. With spring in full swing and summer right around the corner, our outdoor attractions are the perfect way to encourage outdoor recreation that everyone in the family will enjoy. Thrill seekers are attracted to Adventure Park USA’s roller coasters, while “little tykes” enjoy the carousel and mini-helicopters and go-karts are a park favorite for everyone. A round of mini-golf is another fantastic way for the entire family to get active, enjoy the fresh air and incorporate a bit of friendly competition. With plenty of space to walk around and explore plus activities for everyone, you can fit in a full day of recreation and outdoor fun.

During your visit, we recommend wearing sunscreen and packing extra, even on cloudy days. Wearing a hat and light-colored clothing will also help protect you from dangerous sun rays. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids on hot days to keep hydrated and feeling your best. Outdoor rides will be open Saturdays and Sundays from April 1st – June 16th (weather permitting).  Outdoor rides will be open daily starting June 17th through Labor Day weekend and then weekends only through November 5.

Getting Through the January Cabin Fever

Getting Through the January Cabin Fever

Being snowed in can be fun, pleasant, boring, terrible or even all of the above. It can get tricky finding ways to entertain kids for hours on end without leaving the house! Here are a few ideas to fill your snow days with fun when schools and day cares are closed because of a snow storm:

  • Write thank you notes – Take the time to thank all of your friends and family for the gifts you received during the holidays. Then get bundled up and trek to the mail box for a little adventure.
  • Read a book – Read with your kids to help them reach their reading goal for the school year. Get your children motivated to learn even when they are not in school.
  • Bring the outdoors, indoors – Fill the bathtub with snow and play indoors! You get to have all of the fun of the snow in your toasty warm house.
  • Make snow cream – Embrace the cold and snow and collect some to make snow ice cream. Simply add vanilla extract and sweetened condensed milk to snow and mix is up to make a delicious treat.
  • Have an indoor picnic – Make it feel like spring inside by having a picnic. Place a blanket on your living room floor and fill it with all of your family’s favorite foods. It’s a different and fun way to enjoy lunch.

At Adventure Park Academy we don’t follow the Frederick County school schedule and try our best to remain open as long as it is safe for students and faculty. We are unique in that we not only provide a structured learning program for our preschool and pre-k children but also includes all the fun of amusement park attractions and arcade games that Adventure Park USA has to offer.

Getting though the coldest months can be tough, but at Adventure Park Academy we are already looking forward to having fun outdoors in the spring. To learn more about our preschool, pre-kindergarten and seasonal camps visit our website. These are just a few of our ideas for spending days snowed in. How does your family pass the time?
